Only one person needs to save but anyone can and it will sync across each persons game. I didn't bother much with the quick save feature as it only saves in one slot. Don't be afraid to save twice in different slots too. Again in another slot and you'll be fine. Save after you altering something in the game like upgrading and such as examples. Save before loading points like bulk heads. If you use any Mods make sure the other players are using them too. Play this over a Virtual LAN as it will play a bit smoother than playing it directly online as me and my co-op discovered. Sure if the patch locked to 3 you could tweak it to 4. You can give 4 players a try if you want.
